The Ako Tu ‘uloa‘s programs vary from one year to another as they cater for the educational needs of their students, either to complete their formal secondary education or to start an entry level pathway to other academic and vocational programs offered by TNU. Further, some students would prefer to do a National Certificate Qualification offered by TNQAB, as part of their university preparatory program.

Certificate for Sustainable Energy Level 1

Program Statement:

Provides trainees with the knowledge about sustainable energy and its applications in Tonga.

National Certificate for Sustainable Energy Level 1	1	NS039-01	Fundamental workplace communication skills This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to develop basic communication skills in the workplace. It applies to individuals working under direct supervision who are developing basic skills and knowledge of workplace communication in preparation for working in a broad range of work in the energy/sustainable energy sector.
		NS040-01	Apply basic workplace health and safety procedures for SE This unit standard is for persons who work, or intend to work, in the energy/sustainable energy sector. It encompasses responsibilities for health, safety, risk management processes at all operative levels and adherence to safety practices as part of the normal way of doing work
		NS041-02	Participate in a team towards an objective This unit covers competency in working with others and making a positive contribution to the effectiveness and efficiency of a team in a community and/or work environment when predominantly under direct supervision. Limited responsibility towards others is required. This unit standard is appropriate for people who are currently in the workforce or intend to engage in employment
		NS042-02	Collect, present and apply workplace information This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to collect, present and apply information from a range of sources in a workplace. It applies to individuals working under direct supervision who are developing basic skills and knowledge of workplace information and communication systems which are applicable to working in a broad range of settings relevant to working in the energy sector
	2	NS043-01	Basic tools, equipment and materials used in Renewable energy technology (RET) and Energy efficiency (EE) This unit standard is for a person who works, or may intend to work in the energy sector or energy related fields.
		NS044-01	Describe and Explain Energy Sources This unit standard is for people who work, or intend to work in Energy and Energy related fields.
		NS045-01	Promoting Sustainable Energy Practices in the Pacific Island Communities This unit standard is for people who work, or intend to work in Energy and Energy related fields
		NS046-01	Perform Workplace Calculations for the Energy Sector This unit standard is appropriate for people who are currently in the workforce or intend to engage in employment in the field of energy/sustainable energy. In this unit, standard calculators may be used to assist in calculations.

		NS047-02	Identify and use appropriate cultural protocols for Tonga This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to develop awareness of, and apply the protocols of culture in the Pacific Island region, including the need to identify the appropriate persons when approaching a community and communicate according to protocols and also for persons who work, or intend to work, in the Energy/Sustainable Energy sector.
		NS048-02	Describe and explain basic Renewable Energy Technologies (RET) and energy saving practices This unit standard is for people who work, or intend to work in the Energy sector.
		NS 049-02	Provide basic sustainable energy solutions for energy reduction in residential, commercial and industrial premises This unit must be demonstrated in relation to providing basic sustainable energy solutions for energy reduction in residential, commercial and industrial premises.
		NS 050-02	Apply tools, equipment, materials relevant to tasks in RETs and Energy Efficiency practices This unit standard is for a person who work, or may intend to work in the energy sector or energy related sectors.
		NS 051-03	Promote and contribute to energy efficiency This unit standard is for persons who work, or intend to work, in the energy and sustainable energy sector. It describes the outcomes required to maintain energy efficient work practices and contribute to systems improvement with regard to energy efficiency (EE).
